Hello and welcome to the new Tara Barnes Photography Blog! I'm Tara, a wedding and senior portrait photographer based in Weatherford, Texas. (just outside of Fort Worth) I hope you enjoy viewing my latest work, browsing resources for brides, and getting a little peek into my life!
This session reminds me of something out of a Wes Anderson movie! When Mary and Patrick showed up with their Tandem bike that they were learning to ride, I was pretty excited! Mary and Patrick are both into the 50’s vibe so this session fit them perfectly. Together they enjoy drive-ins, old movies, ice cream, antiques, tandem biking, and kayaking!
Mary and Patrick first met when they were juniors in high school. Mary had just transferred to Temple High and was the shy new kid. That particular day she was feeling bold and wanted to make a new friend so she complimented the boy sitting behind her in German class that was wearing a Star Trek shirt. That boy happened to be Patrick and he was a little surprised by her compliment, but after class they walked together and chatted becoming instant friends.
One day they had a 50’s themed date planned and Patrick borrowed a 1957 Bel-Air from his friend and they went to the movie theater that showed old movies to see West Side Story. After the movie they got bobba tea, visited 2 antique shops and ended their date strolling through the park. Patrick popped the question at the park and Mary of course said yes!
They are getting married next June at the Chapel at Caliber Oak in Temple, Texas and I can’t wait! Mary and Patrick are two peas in a pod and I’m so happy they’ve found one another. Many congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs.!
Amanda and Ki-Young both have hearts of gold and it’s clear they were made for one another! Ki-Young came all the way from Chicago then these two drove up from Houston for their session! Thankfully, we were blessed with one of the prettiest days of the week. We had absolutely perfect light and weather and have I mentioned that I’m obsessed with this spot in Fort Worth!?
Amanda and Ki-Young met at a birthday party in Austin, but didn’t become friends until almost a year later when Ki-Young was planning to move to Chicago where Amanda happened to be living at the time. Together they love long drives and visiting cozy coffee shops! Amanda eventually moved back to Texas, but they kept up their relationship long distance through phone calls and occasional visits.
Ki-Young is quite the romantic, even living in different states, he made the effort to meet Amanda’s parents to ask for their daughter’s hand in marriage! When he was ready to propose, he secretly flew to Houston with one of Amanda’s best friends, Alexis. Without letting Amanda know he was in town he waited at Hermann Park while Alexis and Amanda went to the park to “hang out.” At the park, Alexis lead Amanda to the spot where Ki-Young was hiding where he proceeded to ask Amanda to marry him! Amanda of course, said “Yes!” and these two are tying the knot next July in Houston! Amanda and Ki-Young, I’m honored to be a part of this exciting season of life for you both and I can’t wait for the day you become husband and wife!!
Buffalo Bayou Engagement Session Now that I’m back from the amazing Showit United conference, it’s going to be a week full of engagement sessions on the blog and Nicki and Joe are the first up! We had the perfect weather for their engagement session! It’s been so dreary around here lately, I was thankful for […]
Courtney and Matt had a beautiful fall wedding at the stunning Dove Ridge Vineyard in Weatherford! I was touched by how loved these two are, during the speeches their family and friends went on and there was barely a dry eye in the room! Their day began in the lovely getting ready suite at Dove Ridge with Courtney surrounded by seven of her closest friends. When I arrived, everyone was so relaxed, visiting with one another as they put the finishing touches on their hair and makeup. After everyone was ready, Courtney and Matt shared the sweetest moment behind a pillar so they couldn’t see one another just moments before the ceremony!
I loved Matt’s reaction to his beautiful bride walking down the aisle. Throughout the day, Matt was so tender and goofy with Courtney, it’s obvious how much he loves her! After their ceremony in front of the grand fireplace, everyone headed on to the reception area to enjoy stations of many different food types. Their reception was quite the party with everyone dancing the night away on the dance floor! Courtney and Matt, I wish you both all the best in your marriage. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of capturing this special season of life!
With the weeks of rain we’ve been having lately we were SO lucky for a small break in the rain! The beginning of Jayle and Paul’s engagement session was filled with their sweet puppies and sunshine. As their session went on, dark clouds loomed overhead, but thankfully it didn’t start to downpour until we were walking to the cars! These two came all the way from New Mexico for their engagement session and I had a great time getting to know them both. Their pups were pretty fun too, Rowdy and Mason Dixon were complete goofballs as I’m sure you can see in the photos 🙂
Paul proposed to Jayle on a family trip to Las Vegas celebrating Jayle and her mom’s birthday. Paul knew this would be the perfect time to pop the question, but still wanted to keep it a surprise for Jayle. One of the early nights of their vacation they went to a fancy restaurant, but Paul decided to hold off to keep Jayle in suspense. The moment finally came when they were taking photos in front of the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. After waiting in line, they got up to the sign and Paul got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She said “yes” then everyone around including a huge tour group that had just arrived began applauding!
These two are tying the knot in Aggieland next fall at Brownstone Reserve and I can’t wait to be a part of their special day. Many congratulations to Jayle and Paul!
Kathryn and Alex grew up together in Pecan Plantation in Granbury, Texas, but they didn’t begin dating until college! When it came time to plan their wedding, they had to look no further than their neighborhood. Nestled among thousands of pecan trees, Pecan Plantation is a one of a kind residential community. There’s multiple parks, a restaurant, pharmacy, airport, country club and much more!
The newlyweds tied the knot at a church just outside Pecan Plantation then held their lovely reception at the country club. They had a quaint wedding surrounded by their closest family and friends followed by a dinner party. During the ceremony, there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen as Kathryn walked down the aisle. One of my favorite photos is of her sweet family members wiping away their tears of joy. After the ceremony I loved capturing these two around the beautiful country club property. There were so many beautiful spots for portraits, Kathryn and Alex looked so elegant against the striking black and white building! Together, Kathryn and Alex make such a fun, sweet, pair and it was a joy being a part of their wonderful day. Many congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Knapp! I wish you all the best in your marriage!
Here’s a little engagement session sunshine to brighten this rainy day! Morgan and Shaughn knew of each other in college, graduated, then went separate ways without much coming of their relationship. One night, they each went out separately with friends in Wichita Falls where they locked eyes and their relationship began!
Last week I met up with these two on a beautiful day in Fort Worth for their engagement session. They wanted to include their old truck in the photos so they hauled it to Fort Worth. The truck had previously belonged to Shaughn’s grandfather and it was the perfect prop for their portraits, I love how sentimental it is to them! These two are tying the knot this November at the Springs in Weatherford and I can’t wait for their beautiful day! Morgan and Shaughn, many congratulations on your engagement!
Julie and Andrew had a beautiful morning wedding last month at the Ashton Gardens in DFW. I arrived at the hotel the girls were getting ready at just as the sun was rising! From the hotel, we headed on to Ashton Gardens where Julie had all of her lovely bridesmaids help put on her dress before meeting Andrew for their first look.
Their ceremony took place inside the gorgeous chapel on the property surrounded by trees with floor to ceiling windows. It was absolutely stunning! My favorite part of their ceremony was towards the end, Julie and Andrew went out to their families to hug them as a symbol of their families becoming one. Such a great way to honor two histories! After the ceremony all the guests proceeded to the reception hall to celebrate the newlyweds with lunch.
Many congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Song! It was a joy being a part of capturing your wonderful day and I wish you all the best in your marriage!
I am so excited to share Kat and Stu’s lovely wedding on the blog today! Throughout their day everyone was full of smiles and laughs, just ready to have a good time! Katherine and Stuart first met in Dunn Hall (a dorm on the Texas A&M University campus) when Stuart was studying abroad. He had come a long way from the UK and was determined to not get in a relationship in Texas. As fate would have it, Katherine and Stuart grew closer and closer and ended up dating knowing it would be difficult living almost 5,000 miles and an ocean apart.
Their wedding day was a long-awaited, joyful celebration of these two becoming one after working through many obstacles. They had family members from all over the world come to celebrate and explore Texas for the first time! Kat and Stuart chose Olde Dobbin Station as their venue because they loved that it was an old train station and Stuart thought Texas trains were fascinating since they are so big and slow – very different from the trains where he’s from!
I can’t think of a couple more perfectly suited for one another. Katherine and Stuart are both such fun, goofy, laid back, all around loving people, I am so happy that miles and oceans couldn’t keep them apart! Kat and Stu, your love for one another is so apparent! Thank you so much for allowing me to capture this special season of life and I wish you both all the best in your marriage. I hope you both enjoy living in the same house let alone the same country! 😉
Stacy and Alvin both live in Austin, but are getting married at the Laurel in Grapevine next May! Since they live in Austin, we set up a time to get to know each other better over Facetime and from that call I knew we were going to be a great fit! They both love the outdoors, spending time with friends, playing board games, and of course each other! Stacy and Alvin met when they were in high school at a Christian summer youth camp when Alvin was wandering around the campsite. He ran into Stacy and a friend jumping up and down trying to take jumping pictures! Stacy said she had never laid eyes on such a handsome boy in her life. Alvin was at first taken aback by the girl’s silliness, but quickly became comfortable and Stacy and Alvin became good friends and later started dating.
Years later, they went on a short trip to Seattle with close friends and spent a beautiful day exploring the the park, seeing the forests, lakes, and beautiful mountains. Their last stop was at Rialto beach at sunset. While walking along the beach, Alvin said, “This would be such a beautiful place to propose! If only I had the ring!” Stacy was thinking the same thing, but little did she know…
In their words, “The walk was quite long, with lots of rocks and a stream to cross. We had to rush to get to these two big rocks before sunset – a very picturesque spot! When we finally made it, Alvin took pictures of our friends and then we switched for our turn to have our picture taken. But instead, Alvin started talking – sharing memories with Stacy and reminiscing on all of the times they had together. It was then that Stacy realized that Alvin did in fact have the ring! He got down on one knee and proposed, and of course, Stacy said yes!”
For their engagement session we met up in Fort Worth which is now officially my favorite photo location I’ve come across! I looove this park because there’s beautiful trees, tall grass, and a lake that everything overlooks. We joked around during their session that it almost looked like Austin rather than Fort Worth! I can’t wait to celebrate Stacy and Alvin next year in Grapevine in May. Congrats to the future Mr. and Mrs. Tung!
